How To Build A Spiritual B.A.S.I.S. For Life 

In order to have a strong spiritual B.A.S.I.S. in your life there are four things you need to understand and five things you need to do.

#1: Understand that God Loves You and Has A Great Plan For Your Life.

John 3:16 shows us God’s Love. "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Jesus in John 10:10 tells us what God’s Plan for our life is, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

Then what’s keeping us from experiencing all of this?

#2: Understand that Your Sins Separate You From God and Block His Plan For Your Life.

Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." God made us to have fellowship with Him, and every person needs that spiritual B.A.S.I.S. But our sin, our stubborn self-will, keeps us apart from God.

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Rom. 6:23) When we sin (break God’s commandments) we are separated from God. As the diagram shows we cannot break the barrier of sin that separates us from God. Though many religions try, neither religion, philosophy or good living can bridge the gap between God and mankind.

#3: Understand that Christ Died For Your Sins So You Can Know God and His Plan for You.

"But God demonstrates His own Love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Rom. 5:8)

Not only did He die for us, but Jesus rose from the dead. "...He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." (1 Cor. 15:4)

And it was Jesus Christ Himself Who said that He is the only way to know God. "Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’" (John 14:6)

You may say, "But I don’t understand how Christ could have done that!" No one does. But that shouldn’t stop you from accepting Him anymore than someone’s lack of knowing how a car works keeps them from driving it.

#4: Understand that Christ Invites You To Come To Him.

Jesus said, "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will go in and eat with him and he with me." (Rev. 3:20)

Jesus wants you to personally receive Him as Lord of your life. We are not brought to God by joining a church or reading the Bible alone. Only through accepting Jesus as Lord does this happen.

To believe in Christ without accepting Him as your Lord isn’t enough! In the Bible the word "believe" means "to receive" or "to cling to or trust in."

Imagine that you have a headache, can aspirin relieve the pain just because you believe it can? No. You must first take some into you before they can help you. So what should you do??

Establish Your Spiritual B.A.S.I.S.!

B = Believe Jesus died on the Cross for me and showed He was God by coming back to life again.

By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, (1 Cor. 15:2-4)

A = Accept Christ as Lord of My life and His free forgiveness of my sins.

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- (John 1:12)

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace (Eph. 1:7)

S = Switch to God’s Plan for my life.

"The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!" (Mark 1:15)

I = Inform others of your decision.

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

S = Submerge yourself in Christ.

You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. (Galatians 3:26-27)
